For Martin De Vera, nursing has never been a distant profession. It lives inside his family.
His wife, sisters, brothers-in-law, and loved ones have cared for patients across emergency rooms, intensive care units, medical-surgical floors, dialysis centers, burn units, and beyond. He has witnessed the long shifts, the missed family moments, the quiet exhaustion—and the courage it takes to return and care for someone again.
He also saw how much nursing students are expected to carry: countless facts, difficult decisions, financial pressure, and the fear that one examination could stand between them and the career they worked so hard to reach.
That is where INSTINCT Review began.
Not as another ordinary question bank, but as a different kind of promise: to help students turn what they have learned into the judgment to recognize what matters, act safely, and choose the best answer when several answers seem right.
Martin leads the vision, technology, and student experience. As the full question bank is developed, its clinical content follows a documented review process designed for independent evaluation by licensed nurses from different clinical backgrounds before publication.
Built with a patient-safety mindset.
Before creating INSTINCT Review, Martin spent nearly a decade working in hospital telemetry environments. His work centered on cardiac-rhythm monitoring, recognizing urgent changes, accurate documentation, technical problem-solving, and communicating concerns to clinical teams when timing mattered.
He trained telemetry staff and helped registered nurses strengthen cardiac-rhythm interpretation. His background also includes a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, focused training in 12-lead electrocardiography and arrhythmia interpretation, and recognition for identifying signs of sepsis.
Later experience in marketing and administration taught him how to turn complicated information into a clearer, more approachable experience. These perspectives do not replace independent nursing judgment; they are why INSTINCT Review is being built around careful sourcing, licensed-nurse review, understandable teaching, and systems that protect students from unverified content.
We have something to prove.
We may be newer than the familiar names in NCLEX preparation. We do not hide from that—we build from it.
It means we must listen more carefully, improve more quickly, remain transparent about what we offer, and work harder to earn every student’s trust. Serious preparation should be modern, motivating, clinically responsible, and affordable—not reserved only for students who can pay the highest price.
Our goal is not simply to help someone answer a test question.
Our goal is to help a future nurse recognize the moment when a patient needs them most—and trust the reasoning they worked so hard to build.
Because behind every nursing student studying late at night is a future patient who will someday depend on the decisions that student makes.
You can learn the skills. But mastering your nursing instinct? That’s a different story.
